ANNOUNCEMENTS

5Essentials Survey Participation

Your participation in the 5Essentials Survey is vital to our schools!

This survey helps us identify areas for improvement, measure progress on our strategic plan, and ensure we receive an actionable report from the State of Illinois. To achieve this, we need at least 20% parent/guardian participation and, to date, we have only received a 7% GBS participation rate. Your feedback plays a crucial role in shaping our school’s future—thank you for your support!

Please visit the 5Essentials Parent login to complete the survey using the instructions found here.

2025 Distinguished Teacher Nominations

Students, do you have a favorite teacher?  Is there a teacher who made a positive impact on you and your classmates?  Would you like to see this teacher recognized at the annual Honors and Awards Ceremony?  Now is your chance to nominate them!

The GBS Parents Association is accepting nominations for the 2025 Distinguished Teacher of the Year Award starting on Monday, March 10. The award is designed to recognize exceptional teachers who generously give their time, share their passions and expertise, and change lives for the better.

Links to the nomination process and form have been sent to each student's school email. Nominations should be submitted by Tuesday, April 1, 2025.  Thanks for taking the time to nominate an awesome teacher!

Reminder of Religious Observance Information

Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic lunar calendar, observed by Muslims worldwide as a period of fasting, prayer, reflection, and community.  This year, Ramadan begins on Saturday, March 1, 2025, and continues through Sunday, March 30, 2025, when Muslims will celebrate the holy day of Eid al-Fitr.

Many of our students who observe Ramadan will participate in the following:

  • Wake before dawn (before 5 a.m.) to eat a meal;
  • Refrain from eating or drinking throughout the day (including water);
  • Break their fast at sunset (around 7 p.m.) with a meal; and
  • Participate in evening prayers that may extend late into the night.

To support students who are fasting, alternative spaces have been designated for their lunch block. At Glenbrook South, this will be the Student Activities Office. Students may visit these areas during their lunch block and do not require a pass. As there is an added emphasis on spiritual devotion and prayers during this month, students can also pray in the space designated within the Student Activities Office.

As a reminder, no major assignments should be due and no major tests should be administered around the holiday of Eid al-Fitr.  For students observing Ramadan, please communicate with your teachers so they can support you as you observe. In addition, students will be excused from any physical activity components of any PE course during religious fasting if the parent/guardian notifies the principal in writing that the student is participating in religious fasting.
