Glenbrook South's School Resource Officer, Officer Uscicki, has an important reminder for all drivers on the GBS campus. As the weather gets warmer, we want all of our student drivers to be safe by slowing down and watching for pedestrians. Many of our students walk or bike to and from school, and that number will only increase as the summer approaches. Slow down and be aware! Take care of your fellow classmates and community members. Thank you!

District 225 Process to Withdraw from TrueNorth
|
For nearly 60 years, Glenbrook High School District 225 has been a member of the TrueNorth Special Education Cooperative, which has provided essential services to support some of our students with special needs. While TrueNorth has played a role in our special education programming, the district has made significant investments to enhance our own capacity to serve students within our schools. As a result, we are transitioning away from relying on the cooperative for facilities and staffing to support students in district-run programs.
Although some students may continue to receive services through programs housed at TrueNorth facilities, the cooperative’s membership structure imposes costs beyond per-student tuition. In the upcoming year, membership expenses are projected to exceed $625,000, with an additional $120,000 required for capital development contributions. These costs are assessed separately from tuition payments, representing a significant additional financial commitment for the district.
As responsible stewards of taxpayer funds, the district must evaluate the membership cost, particularly when it provides little to no direct services to our students. Given these factors, the administration has recommended to the District 225 Board of Education that we withdraw from TrueNorth as a member. The district will invest the savings from this withdrawal into programs and resources that support all students and enhance the quality of education in our schools.
As part of this process, the Board of Education will hold a Public Hearing on April 14, offering the community an opportunity to share feedback. The hearing will be part of the Board of Education meeting scheduled for 7 p.m. at the District 225 Administration Building at 3801 W. Lake Ave., Glenview.
We want to assure our families that this potential change will not impact our ability to serve students with disabilities. Our district has highly qualified staff, comprehensive instructional programs, and access to essential therapies and interventions. We aim to keep students in their home community while ensuring they receive the highest quality educational experience and support. We remain committed to meeting all Individualized Education Program (IEP) requirements and facilitating a seamless transition for every student.
If you have any questions, please contact Dr. Lara Cummings at lcummings@glenbrook225.org or (847) 486-4706.
